The Bob Champion Cancer Trust

The Trust's research projects continue at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in Sutton, Surrey and the Bob Champion Research and Education Building at the University of East Anglia (UEA). The work leading from the discovery of five types of bacteria found in urine and tissue samples, from men with aggressive prostate cancer, remains on going at UEA with important data being gathered. This data is helping to establish new targeted treatments that could slow, or even prevent, the development of aggressive disease for future sufferers. The Trust is also funding important clinical trials at the ICR which play a crucial role in driving advances in cancer treatment to improve survival rates. Every year in the UK over 55,000 men are told they have prostate cancer, making it the most common cancer in men, and sadly, at least 12,000 men will die from their disease. Prostate cancer is the only major cancer without a national screening programme but we hope this will change in 2026.
